Composer Gabriela Lena Frank rehearses her composition Ritmos Anchinos with Wu Man at a commissioning workshop at Tanglewood Music Center in Massachusetts. Collaboration between composers and performers is a hallmark of the Silk Road Project’s commissioning process.

You-Young Kim

Viola (Korea) You-Young Kim is a living example of how musicians can bridge cultures and traditions. She has shared her music with musicians from many different genres around the globe such as Klezmer violinist Yale Storm, turntable player D.J. Radar and the Silk Road Ensemble.

She received her Bachelor's degree from the Curtis Institute of Music and her Master's degree from the Juilliard School. Kim has taken part in the New York String Ensemble, Kneiselhall Festival, Henry Mancini Festival, Malta International Music Festival, Mark O'Connor's String Conference and La Jolla Music Festival. She has played with ensembles such as Sejong Soloists, the Knights, New York Lyric society and JK Ensemble.

Kim is currently focusing on concerts with small ensembles as well as on her solo career, in which capacity she plays music from various genres and traditions and many different parts of the world.
