Hadi Eldebek
Oud (United States/Lebanon)
Hadi Eldebek is an innovative, contemporary oudist based in New York City. As a oudist, singer, and composer, Hadi has strived to perform with and lead dynamic collectives of musicians brought together by the shared joy of performing Arabic music interpreted through a contemporary and multi-genre/multi-ethnic perspective.
Hadi began his oud performance studies at the Lebanese National conservatory before moving to New York to continue his studies with master oud and violin player Simon Shaheen.
Since then, Hadi has played with several different groups of diverse genres and cultures, such as Indian, Japanese, Turkish and Greek. He also collaborated with playwright Heather Raffo on the score for her play 9 Parts of Desire and has performed with the production across the country.
Hadi joined the New York Arabic Orchestra at its launch in 2007-2008, performing at such musical landmarks as the Symphony Space and Carnegie Hall. In 2009, he began as a Teaching Artist for Silk Road Connect, visiting New York City's public schools to educate youth about the oud and Arabic music. From there, in 2010, he joined the Silk Road Ensemble.
He expanded his musical ventures by joining the Brooklyn Philharmonic as composer for the 2012-2013 Outside-In Fellowship.
