Kennedy Center Honors broadcast

Members of the Silk Road Ensemble were honored to perform alongside many amazing musicians in tribute to our artistic director Yo-Yo Ma at the Kennedy Center Honors on December 4. See our story on the Honors in this issue.

The gala will be broadcast in the U.S. on CBS on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 (9-11 p.m. ET/PT). We hope you'll tune in!

globalFEST 2012

On January 8, 2012, the Silk Road Ensemble will perform at globalFEST in New York City. Our 9:40 p.m. performance will feature 14 musicians from six countries—and music from the crossroads of the world. See our press release for details about this premier world music showcase. Ticketing information can be found at globalFEST.

New commissions

We have commissioned four new pieces for the SIlk Road Ensemble from Glenn Kotche (Wilco drummer and composer interviewed in this issue), David Bruce (interviewed in April), Vijay Iyer, and Kojiro Umezaki. Composers will workshop this new music with the Ensemble at a new commissions workshop at Harvard University in January 2012.

Asia concert tour

The Silk Road Ensemble with Yo-Yo Ma will perform in Asia in March 2012, touring to Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Shanghai, Xi'an, and Beijing, China; and Seoul, South Korea.

See our calendar for details on these events.
