Don't miss the chance to catch the Ensemble live! See our calendar for
details on the Texas & West Coast Tour. Cambridge, MA: Workshop and Concert at Harvard University On March 27, the Silk Road Ensemble with Yo-Yo Ma will perform a concert at Harvard University. This concert is the first public programming of our 2010-2015 partnership with Harvard. That same week, Silk Road Ensemble percussionist Shane Shanahan will lead a percussion workshop for Harvard undergraduate musicians. Boston, MA: "Traveling the Silk Road" Class Art historian Elizabeth ten Grotenhuis, professor emerita at Boston University, will teach a course at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, on the geography, history, religion, art and music of Silk Road. During the course, she will draw on a multimedia work, "Blue and White," created by the Silk Road Ensemble. "Traveling the Silk Road: Alexander the Great to Genghis Khan" will take place from mid-April to early May. Additional performance updates Silk Road Ensemble musicians are involved in so many exciting projects and performances apart from their work with the Silk Road Project—too many for us to call attention to in our newsletter. Recent highlights included a performance by Kayhan Kalhor and Brooklyn Rider in the Tully Scope festival on March 9. A free screening of Intangible Asset No. 82, a film featuring Korean percussionist Dong-Won Kim, will take place on March 22, also at Lincoln Center. Many of our musicians' outside activities connect performers from different countries and cultural traditions in a natural extension of our work. Become a fan of the Silk Road Project on Facebook or follow the Silk Road Project on Twitter for updates on what these exceptional performers are doing.
Presidential Medal of Freedom Finally, no update would be complete without our mentioning how proud we are of our artistic director Yo-Yo Ma, who was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom on February 15 by President Obama in a moving ceremony at the White House. Here's an interview with him about the honor:
