Newark, NJ: New Jersey Performing Arts Center The Silk Road Ensemble with Yo-Yo Ma
We are looking forward to kicking off a series of performances in and around New York City with a concert at NJPAC in Newark on June 4, 2011. In this program, the Ensemble will play some favorite pieces from recent tours, including Osvaldo Golijov's "Air to Air," which is a globetrotting musical journey in itself, and the virtuosic "Taranta Project" from Sicilian cellist and composer Giovanni Sollima. Several Ensemble members will perform in their own compositions as well: Kayhan Kalhor in "Silent City," Sandeep Das in "Shristi" and Cristina Pato and Kojiro Umezaki in their new piece "Vojo."

New Haven, CT: International Festival of Arts and Ideas The Silk Road Ensemble with Yo-Yo Ma
We will perform a free concert on the New Haven Green on opening night of the International Festival of Arts & Ideas, June 11, 2011. That afternoon, our artistic director Yo-Yo Ma will discuss how the historical Silk Road, a series of trade routes that crisscrossed Eurasia, inspired him to found the Silk Road Project to support international cultural exchange and learning through the arts. In the evening, the Ensemble will take the stage to perform music inspired by our global connections.
