A short documentary film about Iranian kamancheh virtuoso Kayhan Kalhor was recently released by LinkTV. A performer with the Silk Road Ensemble, Kayhan has also composed music for the group, including Silent City, which the Ensemble will perform during its North America tour in spring 2011.

Kayhan Kalhor: Songs of Hope

In this film, Kayhan discusses how he came to play the kamancheh after studying violin in the Persian style, and how he went on to become a professional musician. A portion of this documentary was filmed during a rehearsal of Blue as the Turquoise Night of Neyshabur, another piece Kayhan composed for the Silk Road Ensemble with Yo-Yo Ma.
