With a program well suited to summer festival venues—an eclectic mix of music traditional and new, by turns joyful, meditative, lyrical and hard-edged—the Silk Road Ensemble with Yo-Yo Ma performed in 10 cities in the U.S. in August 2010. Audiences picked up on the amazing energy onstage.

Road. We were thrilled to hear from some our fans on Facebook about their concert experiences. They praised the "amazing music" and "the joy evident among the performers and the powerful connections among musicians...and constant, passionate, virtuosic playing."
Critics hailed the performances too. The Chicago Tribune called the Ravinia concert "exhilarating," "a multicultural jam session." The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle noted the impressive attendance on an evening with competition: "Yo-Yo Ma beat out Weezer."
Calling attention to the Ensemble's "technical discipline, improvisatory freedom and rambunctious musical expression," the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel described "an unforgettable evening that wedded past and present with disparate-yet-related cultures into something both global and tremendously fun."
The Wisconsin State Journal said "the Ensemble is taking a planet's worth of musical influences and creating something new and exciting out of them. This tour may be over, but the conversation continues."
