Residency at Harvard University From September 23 through 28, the Silk Road Ensemble with Yo-Yo Ma will gather at Harvard for one of several residencies throughout our five-year affiliation with the University. During this week, the Ensemble will workshop new commissions from Michael Ward-Bergeman and Lev (Ljova) Zhurbin. They will also mentor undergraduate musicians, coaching them on approaches for arranging a traditional piece for Silk Road Ensemble instruments, and work with arts education students at the Graduate School of Education. This week of exploration will include a concert for the Harvard community. More on the road
The Silk Road Ensemble with Yo-Yo Ma will perform a private concert in Abu Dhabi in November 2011 and will return to Harvard University in January 2012 for a new commissions workshop with composers David Bruce, Vijay Iyer, Glenn Kotche, and Kojiro Umezaki. The Ensemble will tour with Mr. Ma in several cities in Asia in March 2012. See our calendar for details on programming in the coming months. The Goat Rodeo Sessions
Our artistic director Yo-Yo Ma has been working on a new collaborative album with Stuart Duncan, Edgar Meyer and Chris Thile, due to release in October. According to the Urban Dictionary, a goat rodeo "is about the most polite term used by aviation people (and others in higher risk situations) to describe a scenario that requires about 100 things to go right at once if you intend to walk away from it." According to Yo-Yo, recording this album was a goat rodeo. We're looking forward to hearing it. In the meantime, you can watch a preview on Yo-Yo's website. |
