"Creating a Life with Music" Workshops

The Silk Road Project is committed to fostering the next generation of musical talent. Led by Yo-Yo Ma and members of the Silk Road Ensemble, “Creating a Life with Music” workshops are designed for advanced high-school music students.

These intensive workshops incorporate instruction, performance and discussion addressing what it means to be a musician in today’s global culture. Topics move beyond technique and theory to encourage young musicians to explore a diverse range of musical expression and open new avenues for students approaching performance and careers in music.

“We found out Mr. Ma is not only an amazing musician and an inspiring teacher, but also a warm and humble person. His attitude and that of the other musicians in the group showed me how I would like to be as a professional musician: open to other musicians, motivating to students, in touch with the audience.”
