American Express: Sponsor of the Silk Road Project in Japan

American Express Company became the Silk Road Project’s Lead sponsor in Japan in November 2007. The partnership between the Silk Road Project and American Express, now in its second term of sponsorship, is built on the shared commitment to furthering cross-cultural understanding and innovation.

American Express supported the concerts by the Silk Road Ensemble with Yo-Yo Ma in Nagoya’s Aichi Prefectural Arts Theatre on April 20; Tokyo’s Suntory Hall on April 21; and Osaka’s Symphony Hall on April 24. In addition, the sponsorship provided for a community performance for students at the American School in Japan (ASIJ).

American Express hosted private receptions following the concerts in Nagoya, at the Aichi Prefectural Art Theatre cafe; Tokyo, at ANA Intercontinental Hotel’s ballroom; and Osaka, at Mi Chinita Restaurant. These events, exclusively for American Express Centurian Card holders, provided the perfect setting for guests to personally meet Yo-Yo Ma and members of the Silk Road Ensemble. A total of 335 American Express guests enjoyed this unique experience.
