July 30 - August 7, 2007

Silk Road Project Executive Director Laura Freid and Development Manager Kristen Powich traveled to Hong Kong and Beijing to plan for the Silk Road Ensemble’s upcoming concert tour with Yo-Yo Ma in China.

The tour, planned for October 2-12, 2007, will open with a performance in the Opening Ceremony of the Special Olympics in Shanghai and will include concerts in Shanghai, Suzhou, Hong Kong and Beijing. In addition to their performing schedule, Silk Road Ensemble musicians will conduct workshops with Hong Kong music students and students at the Beijing Conservatory as part of the Silk Road Project’s Innovators in Tradition exchange program with musicians from Azerbaijan, China and India, which is funded in part by the U.S. Department of State.
