Mark Suter
percussion/composer (b. 1967, Switzerland, United States)

New York City based Percussionist Mark Suter's diverse background has led him to collaborate with an eclectic array of musicians and ensembles. He has performed and studied hand percussion in Brazil, Cuba, Kazakhstan and Costa Rica. Suter toured Europe in the summer of 2003 with Yo-Yo Ma, Paquito D'Rivera, Kathrine Stott and the Assad Brothers, promoting Mr. Ma's Grammy award winning CD, ' Obrigado Brazil'. Since 2000, Suter has been a member of Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble. Suter has been a member of Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble since 2000 and tours extensively with the Silk Road Project. He appears on all three of the Ensemble’s albums released by Sony Classical: When Strangers Meet, Beyond the Horizon and New Impossibilities.

Suter has worked with such Pop and Jazz artists as Aretha Franklin, Sam Newsome and Vanessa Fllabella. He is a founding member of the New Power Trio, a piano trio that has its roots in Afro Cuban and Brazilina music. With the trio he released the CD's, 'The New Power Trio' and 'Echo Park'. Suter performs regularly with the Orchestra of St. Lukes, The Radio City Music Hall Orchestra, the Singapore Symphony and is the Principle Percussionist of the Stamford Symphony. Suter is an endorser of Toca Percussion as well as an active clinician.

He has rercorded for Sony Classical, Koch International, Monroe Street Records, Dorien Records and NPT records. He holds a bachelors degree in Music from the University of Michigan and a Master degree in Music from California State University, Northridge.
