Japan
Instrumentation:
cello, piano
In Orion (1984) a duo for cello and piano, composer Toru Takemitsu looked to the heavens for his inspiration. Based on the constellation of the same name, he focuses on the three stars that make up the belt of the graceful hero in the sky. The number three is also featured in the melodic and harmonic framework of the piece with the gradual progression of the cello line creating an ethereal and timeless lyricism. |
