THE SILK ROAD PROJECT PARTNERS WITH CARNEGIE HALL AND THE BOSTON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA TO PRESENT "TRADITION AND INNOVATION, A WORKSHOP WITH YO-YO MA AND THE SILK ROAD ENSEMBLE ON MENTORING, CREATING AND COMMUNICATING" IN SEPTEMBER 2004

NEW YORK, February 11, 2004 - World-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma and Artistic Director of the Silk Road Project, Inc. (SRPI) will join members of the Silk Road Ensemble and musicians from Azerbaijan, China, India, and Iran in a series of workshops, seminars and concerts aimed at training a new generation of musicians in the performance practice of music from the Silk Road region from September 8 to 19, 2004, at The Tanglewood Music Center, Lenox, Massachusetts, and Carnegie Hall, New York, New York. Participants will spend a week at The Tanglewood Music Center working on existing music as well as newly commissioned music by Silk Road composers. After a weeklong workshop at Tanglewood, Yo-Yo Ma will travel with members of the Silk Road Ensemble to New York for extended seminars with workshop participants. The culminating event will take place at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall with a performance by workshop participants exploring the musical traditions of the historical Silk Road. Applications will be accepted for the following instruments: violin, viola, cello, bass, piano and percussion.
